What would happen if they introduced Communism to Saudi Arabia? Nothing at first but soon there would be a shortage of sand.

To kick off this season of films on humour we’re showing Hammer and Tickle, a rarely seen film by Ben Lewis that tells the story of a political system that was (almost) laughed out of existence.

Under the oppressive regimes of the Soviet Union and its satellites, ordinary people told thousand of jokes about the society they lived in and the political system they suffered under – jokes that had a hugely subversive effect.

Film starts at 7.45 and will be followed by discussion. Entry to film £3 or £2 for unwaged, low waged, students or OAPs.
