Manchester Film Co-operative and Keep Our NHS Public Greater Manchester would like to invite you to a screening of the documentary film “Sell Off“, which tells the alarming story of how the health service as we know it has been quietly abolished. The screening will take place at the International Anthony Burgess Centre on the 8th of April at 7pm.

“Corporate interests rather than patient care is driving reform in today’s NHS and will divert money away from YOU. And the media are failing to tell you this. Almost without our noticing, it’s been replaced by a system modelled on the US in which care is delivered by profit-maximising companies that charge patients for treatment which is anyway to be restricted and reduced. One medical reporter the filmmaker knows claims that health reporting today is so poor because few journalists have real sources inside the NHS. Well, this film has a riot of medical sources – including one professor, two consultant radiologists, a cancer expert, a public interest lawyer, and several outspoken GPs. What they all say will be shocking, unusual and brave.”

There will also be a post-film discussion with speakers from the film: Dr Bob Gill (GP and candidate for National Health Action Party) and Lucy Reynolds (research fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) in debate with prospective candidates from the Green Party, Labour Party and TUSC.

In conjunction with a ‘Sylvia Pankhurst Heritage Bike Tour’ (which starts from the Gallery of Costume in Platt Fields Park at 12.00pm) Manchester Film Co-op is hosting a premier screening of this 2011 feature length documentary, tracing Sylvia Pankhurst’s ideas, campaigns and political life, beginning at 2:30pm at the People’s History Museum.  It is packed with little known facts from primary sources, rare archive imagery, interviews with historians and compelling testimony from Sylvia’s son, Richard Pankhurst and his wife Rita.  The campaigns Sylvia led embraced far more than ‘votes for women’ as she uniquely understood the fight for democratic rights required a challenge to the system.  Part of Wonder Women Radical Manchester.

Manchester Film Co-op invites you to our screening of Inequality for All on Tuesday 3rd March at The Yard Theatre (Work for Change) in Hulme. Income Inequality is something (former US Labor Secretary) Reich, who appears in the film, has personal experience of, and these first hand experiences guide an emotively human way into an idea-driven film.
